Miesto konania tábora:
The V4 STEM Camp is supported by the International Visegrad Fund
In order to promote science, engineering, technology, IT and mathematics (STEM) as an attractive career option for girls our coalition of four associations – Association of Women in Science (Hungary), Gender Studies (Czech Republic), Perspektywy (Poland) and Aj Ty v IT (Slovakia) – have joined to organize a 5-day summer camp for 40 girls in the Visegrad countries.
The camp will be organized in English at the premises of Makerspace.hu in Nagykovacsi, near Budapest, Hungary with the leadership of interdisciplinary experts. This event will provide useful skills and development training that are crucial for building a successful career, and will also aim to establish a network among V4 students and strengthen V4 identity. The organizers will support participants in traveling from the country of origin to the venue of the summer camp in Hungary and will provide full board and accommodation for participants.
The program of the summer camp
The main goal of the camp is to build a shared city of the future, a self sufficient, zero emission smart city in which different cultures can live and work together.
We will build the city by using a mix of digital fabrication methods (3D printers, laser cutters, microcontrollers, robots) and traditional tools (woodworking, vinyl cutting, sewing). The city will be fully automated and will be populated by the representatives of the V4 countries and their neighbours.
While building the city itself is a scientific and technological challenge which needs engineering skills and coordinated teamwork, the main goal of the camp is to make the participants understand that cities are primarily social structures, in which people and culture are the most important aspects of our shared living.
The workshop does not need any prior skills in fabrication, we will supply the participants with all the skills and tools for the building.
This is not the first “City of the Future” workshop at Makerspace, and this time we will include all V4 nationalities of the participants into the mix, raising their awareness on issues like minorities, disabilities, local economies and politics.
The camp gives much space for the creativity and responsibility of the participants, and we will enhance this effect even further by encouraging the girls to work in groups not based on their nationalities but their interests in topics like urbanization, education, vision of future, sustainable economy, energy, robotics, culture etc.
During the camp we will also visit Budapest, and we will invite guests from different professions and with diverse background to give further inspiration to participants.
